" We don't show goats, we grow goats."

However that doesn't mean that you won't see Tally ear tags on several show goats at local and state fairs. For years we have been proud  to sponsor local area youths in meat goat competition...in the future we may have to change our stance on showing goats as our grandsons near 4-H age.

Greetings from Illinois farm country.                                     We are Dale and Pat Tally, living southwest of Paris near Clarksville. Our 200 acre farm is located directly south of   Bell Ridge, the moraine where the last glacier came to rest. We have varied terrain of flat farm fields, rolling pastures, deep ravines, heavy woods and a rocky creek running through a long, wide creek bottom.

Dale began raising registered Nubian goats in the early 1980's. Through the years many of the Nubians were replaced by Boer goats and we kept a nice herd of registered and commercial goats. We've also brought other breeds of does into the herd through the years like Saanen, Alpine, Oberhasliand and deBoer.

In February 2005 we brought the Kiko influence into our herd        with three 50% Crossbred does and an unrelated 50% Genemaster buck. Soon after we added a 100% New Zealand Ancestery Kiko buck, then five 50% Genemaster does. In July of 2006 we aquirred our Purebred Kiko buck and in June of 2007, our second 100% New Zealand Ancestery Kiko buck. We also added several Purebred Kiko does to the herd in June of 2007.

Culling the Nubians, through the Boers to the present Kikos,      our foundation doe herd has developed into a strong, yet diverse, example of what we consider to be a great harem. Building our herd with an emphasis on does with strong maternal instincts and well conformed udders, hearty goats with a high tolerance of parasites, and healthy hooves with minimal required trimmings. We chose to breed up our purebred Kikos with the hybrid vigor of the foundation does.

We are also building a Texas Genemaster line,                           through the breeding of a Fullblood Boer buck to 75% Genemaster does and through the breeding of our 75% Genemaster buck to Fullblood Boer does. With this approach we will be able to offer complete packages of Texas Genemasters does with unrelated bucks. With the addition of three Full Blood Boer does, bred to a 75% Genemaster buck in the spring of 2007, we now have a third unrelated Texas Genemaster line.

January of 2006 brought our first 50% & 75% Kiko kids.        Although the majority of our does are superb mothers, we feel that the kids born here pre-Kiko, from our Boer buck, needed more attention and unput. We were vigilant with kidding, ready with the "Nutra-Drench", helping to get kids clean & dry and up to nurse.

Our Kiko-percentage kids have been vigorous from birth,             when our kidding is scheduled during cold months, use of heat lamps, "Nutra-Drench", and pampering newborn kids has been drastically reduced.
